On February 27th, a delegation from the Ministry of Science and Technology led by Nguyen Quan, member of the Party Central Committee and Minister of Science and Technology paid a working visit to the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST).

On behalf of VAST, Prof. Chau Van Minh, warmly welcomed the delegation and said that this was an opportunity for scientists from the academy to listen to ideas by the ministry’s leaders and present their thinking in order to contribute to the development of Vietnam’s science and technology.
At the working session, Prof. Nguyen Dinh Cong, vice president of VAST made a report to the minister and the delegation about results achieved by the academy in recent years in the fields of science and technology, creating scientific opportunities, promoting international cooperation and in training and enterprise management. He also touched on several difficulties and shortcomings, which need the help of the Party, State, relevant ministries, committees and agencies, but particularly from the Ministry of Science and Technology and the VAST.

Addressing the working session, Minister of Science and Technology, Nguyen Quan, appreciated the results achieved by the academy over recent years and said that the Ministry of Science and Technology would create the best conditions for scientists to remain focused and build the academy into Vietnam’s leading center for scientific study and technology development. The academy will study multiple sectors and fields with the highest level of professional staff and modern technical facilities. It will promote deep international cooperation with countries that already develop advanced science and technology, meeting the national demand for science and technology and it’s positive impact on socio-economic development.

On February 17th, at the Representative Office in Ho Chi Minh City, the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST) held a ceremony to inaugurate the Southern Satellite Technology Application Center, under the Vietnam National Satellite Center.
The ceremony drew the participation of Prof. Chau Van Minh, President of the VAST; Assoc. Prof. Pham Van Kiem, head of the Department of Organization and Personnel; representatives from southern units under VAST, and staff of the Southern Satellite Technology Application Center.
The Southern Satellite Technology Application Center is a unit under the Vietnam National Satellite Center. It has its own seal and functions to develop satellite application studies, especially in the southern region and to participate in the implementation of the Vietnam Space Center Project (component project “Ho Chi Minh City Space Technology Application Center”) in the Ho Chi Minh City high-tech zone.

At the launch ceremony, Prof. Minh presented the appointment decision to Dr. Lam Dao Nguyen, the former director of the Southern Satellite Technology Application Center, and congratulated the Vietnam National Satellite Center for its new development. He expressed his hope that the Southern Satellite Technology Application Center will quickly overcome any establishment issues in order to contribute to the further success of the Vietnam National Satellite Center and the implementation of the Vietnam Space Center.
At the ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Pham Anh Tuan, Director of the Vietnam National Satellite Center thanked leaders of VAST for their care and support in its development over recent times He also talked about plans to further develop the center and the Southern Satellite Technology Application Center in the near future. Mr.Tuan also informed the audience about working visits by leaders of VAST and the Vietnam National Satellite Center to Nha Trang on the preparations for the project of the construction of a National Observatory and to Ho Chi Minh City on the implementation of the project on Space Technology Application Center.
On behalf of the center staff, Dr. Lam Dao Nguyen, director the Southern Satellite Technology Application Center, thanked leaders and promised to implement all assigned tasks effectively with the aim of establishing the center as a powerful application unit in Vietnam.
